Oil and Offshore Platforms represent a twofold target to both terrorist's and politically motivated groups. The terrorist threat is either to hold for political gain, target value or extortion value. Politically motivated groups, such as some groups in southwest Africa, use invasion of the platforms to gain concessions from the host government, and attacks have increased in the last 12 months with the demand for concessions turning to demands for money or the removal of workers for ransom.
